Aḥmad al-Kabīr al-Madanī

Biography

The eldest son of his father (by his wife ʿĀʾisha Jallo), he became his principal successor, based in Segu, assuming in 1874 the title amīr al-muʾminīn. When the French forces under Archinard began to approach in 1893 he undertook a hijra eastwards, and ended up with his followers in northern Nigeria
