Biography

He was born in Tafsirga, a town one hundred miles distant from Kayes, son of a well know local scholar and teacher, with whom he studied the principal Islamic sciences. Later he studied with Muḥammad al-Bashīr Dramé (q.v.) in Mārīna; then he travelled to Bamako and studied with Sālim Sūkhūnā, and later to Nioro where he studied for four years with Muḥammad Ṣādiq. He then returned to Tafsirga to assist his father.
