The second son of Aḥmad Bamba, he became the Khalifa-General of the Mourides in 1945 when his brother Muḥammad al-Muṣṭafā Mbacké (the first khalifa to succeed to the founder of the Mouride brotherhood) died. He contributed considerably to the expansion of the Murīdiyya in Senegal.
