The Venetian painter Tiziano Vecellio was born around 1490 at Pieve di Cadore (Dolomites) and died on August 27, 1576 at Venice . He trained at Venice, initially with Sebastiano Zuccato, then Giovanni Bellini. He worked with Giorgione in 1509, at which point his talent attracted attention. He soon won commissions from the signoria of Venice and the rulers of Ferrara, Mantua and Urbino. T. painted Emperor Charles V (fig. 1), who ennobled him in 1533.
