According to the (now inaccessible) manuscript of his refutation of Islam, Abū l-Faḍl ʿAlī ibn Rabban al-Naṣrānī (‘the Christian’) served as secretary to the great East-Syrian (‘Nestorian’) Catholicos Timothy (q.v.), who was in office from 780 to 823.
