Most of the information about the life of António Tenreiro comes from his Itinerário. He is first known in 1523, when he was a soldier in Hormuz (Portuguese India). From there, he accompanied the embassy of Baltasar Pessoa, the city’s alcaide-mor, to the court of Shah Ismail.
