Biography

João de Barros, a great historian as well as a pioneer of the systematisation of Portuguese grammar, was born the illegitimate son of the fidalgo or nobleman Lopo de Barros. He was educated at the court of King Manuel I during the period of the golden age of Portuguese discoveries.
