Sir William Hay Macnaghten’s Violation of the Pact and His Receiving His Just Reward
¶  As soon as Macnaghten took his seat and dismissed the others, he began to mouth words which were contrary to the pact he had signed and sealed only two days before. He said to Sultan Ahmad, “I have several requests of you.” The sardar gave him permission to state his requests and Macnaghten began to speak about the wording of the codicil (to the agreement).
