(also called Hugh of Sancta Maria; died c. 1120). Hugh, a Benedictine chronicler at Fleury, was closely connected with Ivo of Chartres. His treatise on church policy, De regia potestate et sacerdotali dignitate takes a mediating position in the Investiture Controversy. Other major works include a widely read Historia ecclesiastica (down to the 9th cent.), extant in two versions, and a continuation written as a chronicle of the kings of France. His other writings include hagiographic material.
