(Menig, Jost; Dec 13, 1499, Fulda – Aug 11, 1558, Leipzig) began his studies in Erfurt in 1514 (M.A. in 1516), and belonged to the circle of Humanists around K. Muth and H.E. Hessus; he attended the lectures of Luther and Melanchthon in Wittenberg from 1519 onward. He entered the service of the church in 1523, was preacher in Erfurt from 1525 to 1528 (religio-political controversies), and became superintendent in Eisenach in 1529.
